Aid
boat breaches Gaza blockade
Activists from Qatar
and Lebanon have defied Israel's blockade of the Gaza Strip
by docking an aid boat in the territory. The ship delivered
medical aid to the Hamas-controlled territory on Saturday, a
day after leaving from Larnaca port in Cyprus. It is the
first boat to reach Gaza's shores since the end of a
ceasefire between Israel and Hamas on Friday. Fifteen
activists, including two from a Qatari charity, led by the
US-based Free Gaza movement made the voyage. Israeli
authorities did not prevent the ship reaching Gaza's port,
according to the boat's spokesman.

Minivan News Gonne Crazy.
President Mr. Mohamed Nasheed has not spoken about the
Dollar crises yesterday at the Press Conference. He spoke
about the Dollar crises while answering Miadhu Daily’s
question about the shortage of Dollars.
Anyway the fact is Maldives is facing severe Dollar
shortage. Main reason to be believed is that government has
used additional currency Rufiyaa to pay the government bills
and expenses since the funds were empty when Dictator
Gayyoom left the post of President after 30 years. No body
knows where all the money gone. It is simply missing.
Government treasury is simply empty.

A
new democratic dawn in Maldives
A revolution of sorts
has taken place in Maldives. Democracy has overthrown three
decades of one man rule and the country looks forward to a
better future. The ties with India are strong, historical
and enduring. Understandably, it is expected that India will
play a significant in rebuilding Maldives. When the
41-year-old Mohamed 'Anni' Nasheed, a former Amnesty
International prisoner of conscience, took oath last month
as the first democratically-elected president of the
Maldives, an Indian Ocean nation known for its luxurious
hideaways and pristine beaches, Maldivians burst into
frenzied dancing and singing on the streets of the capital
Male. They were celebrating a new democratic dawn in their
life that broke through the long night of three decades of
one-man rule. At least that’s how Maldivians, especially the
young who comprise more than 50 per cent of Maldives’
population, saw it.

says that everyone has the freedom to acquire and impart

OPEC: Will The
Cuts Be Enough?
The oil cartel will most likely slash production by 2
million barrels per day.
OPEC is trying to stop a train wreck. The cartel
of oil-producing countries began its latest meeting in
Algeria on Tuesday morning with some big questions: How to
deal with falling demand, and how to ensure that countries
comply with production cuts? After agreeing to cut daily
output by 1.5 million barrels in early November, many are
wondering if an even deeper cut of 2.0 million barrels or
more on Wednesday will be enough to stave the world's
oversupply of oil.

Local
fisheries will come to a standstill if Labor law is to be
followed – Boat Owner
The fisheries sector
will come to a standstill if they are to follow the labor
law and work only 48 hours per week, according to boat
owners. They have said that their captains and boat crew are
paid good wages. If they are to implement the labor law, the
fishermen, who take to the seas at 4 am, will be working
overtime after 12 pm. Under current law, employers cannot
make anyone work overtime unless the employee agrees to do
so. If some of the crew decides to work overtime on the
vessel, it has to return home to unload the rest of the
crew.

Shoe
attack mars Bush's Iraq visit
George Bush, the US
president, has had a pair of shoes hurled at him at a press
conference during his last surprise visit to Iraq before
leaving office in January. An Iraqi reporter called Bush "a
dog" and shouted out "this is the end" at Sunday's news
conference in Baghdad, before throwing his shoes at the US
leader. Bush, who had been giving a joint press statement
with Nuri Al-Maliki, the Iraqi prime minister, ducked behind
a podium as the shoes narrowly missed his head.
