The United Nations Human Rights Council today adopted by consensus a resolution tabled by the Maldives Government on the subject of human rights and climate change. The resolution is seen as a vital stepping stone towards increased global awareness about the immediate and compelling human face of climate change. The Maldives hopes that this in-turn will enhance the moral and ethical imperative for the world’s climate change negotiators to act decisively to halt and reverse global warming.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Mr Abdulla Shahid has delivered a letter from H. E. Mr Maumoon Abdula Gayoom, President of the Republic of Maldives addressed to H. E. Mr Samak Sundaravej, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand. Minister Shahid handed over the letter today during a call on H. E. Major General Sanan Kajornprasart, Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand. The call was held at the Government House in Bangkok.
The Maldives and Thailand have agreed to conclude a Comprehensive Framework Agreement on Cooperation between the two countries. The agreement was reached during a meeting between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Maldives, H. E Mr Abdulla Shahid and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, H. E. Mr. Noppadon Pattama.
