Maldives in need of a
leader of action rather than just drafted plans
Today, Maldives is in need of a leader who does not only have the capacity to make plans and callout promises, but someone who takes action and makes real the drafted plans.
In this 30 years of regime, Gayoom had remained the president only to make plans and new promises to his people when the time for the elections would have neared, and then to let the action and work to complete the plans be pending.
Gayoom claims he knows the religion Islam well and had completed his studies in azhar university in all his speeches, but even after 30 years, still people in some islands have no mosque to use for their prayers. Even the islands that have mosques are facing with obstacles as these mosques have become so old, without any renovations. Should not Gayoom be ashamed?
Making “to new heights” his slogan in his campaign, the selfish man does not even know how many foundations he had laid in how many islands in which the construction had not even progressed to a single brick above the foundations. In an Islamic society some people still live without a mosque, and the ones that have a mosque near by, crave for a proper and better one.
Every foundation had been laid with a huge budget to support the further constructions, but where are the completed work and more, what happened to the money allocated for the projects included in the budget? And when the people started calling for his resign, making ‘to new heights’ his campaign slogan and tasmeen his running mate, if Gayoom thinks that the people still believes in ‘new heights’ in a Gayoom led government, then if would be fair to call him demented.
Gayoom had learned well lessons of dishonesty and cheating and stealing during his studies from azhar and now the people are calling for their rights that were ruthlessly torn away from them. The people want their share from the national income, and are willing to declare war for their rights. And so the people want a leader, a great leader who puts drafted plans into action, and make dreams become reality.
And the one person eligible and who can turn the drafted and half finished plans of airports and seaports, fishing and farming, tourism, infrastructure and sewerage systems into completed work benefiting the people, is the one and only Mr. Gasim Ibrahim. Gasim had proved long ago, and proves everyday, his abilities and his respect towards the people and their needs.
Gayoom in his 30 years could not even provide a good mosque in all the inhabited islands of this small nation, what would make the people believe that he would take them ‘to new heights’ this time either?
