Rf31.2 million budget for Audit Office approved by Majlis
The People’s Majlis on Tuesday approved a Rf100,000 salary for the Auditor General and also passed the Rf31.2 million budget proposed for the Audit Office for next year.
After evaluating the Audit Office’s budget and discussing the report submitted by the financial committee, the budget was passed without changes. The financial committee had recommended omitting Rf1.3 million from the Audit Office’s budget allocated for training staff. The budget was passed with a majority of 21 votes from the 24 members.
Meemu atoll MP Ahmed Nazim said that the financial committee had suggesting omitting Rf1.3 million from the staff training budget because the Government was thinking about ways to decrease costs. He further said that during the course of the year 50 places had been audited and that those places were due to be audited again next year. The audit reports of the places that had already been audited will be submitted to the Majlis very soon and the financial committee had already received 11 reports.
Most of the MPs who spoke at Tuesday’s sitting of the People’s Majlis said that they were happy with the work of the Audit Office.
