Parents of released prisoners’ requests to take the prisoners back to prison.


Maldivian police service says that some of the families are requesting to take the prisoners back to prison. Since 5th December 119 prisoners has been released for family holidays under parole system. Media officer of Maldivian police service, Sergeant Ahmed Shiyam informed that many families have called the police stations to take the prisoners back to prison. He also said that many commoners worried about the released prisoners.

“Many parents are calling us. They want to send their sons back to prison. We also received calls from commoners worried about the consequences of the release. We will inform and discuss with the penitentiary department. They will know what to do.” Sergeant Ahmed Shiyam said.

Media officer of the Human Rights Commission said that they will investigate and take actions on the release of the prisoners in the name of parole system. Media officer Jeehaan Mahmood said that they will publish a report about this issue.

“It’s very dangerous to keep Criminals released” said jeehaan. Jeehaan pointed out the two prisoners arrested for using alcohol and steeling and said that this type of activities will repeat if the criminals are released without any supervision.
