Golhabo‘s attempts to obstruct essential food imports exposed

Urgent measures imposed by State of Andhra Pradesh / India banning export of essential food items to other states and countries affected Maldives drastically. Even though the country was saved from the brink of starvation, by the valiant efforts of STO, the people, especially the islanders, suffered major difficulties.

The atolls and islanders suffered most. With the rationing system to control the issue of staple foods imposed by the government, the islanders were forced to spend weeks and weeks in Male’, this coupled with the fact when staple foods did finally reached them, it was not enough; caused major discomfort and uneasiness triggering waves ill feeling and mistrust towards the government.

The government was faced with a barrage of criticisms and key government officials were blamed of mismanagement and complacency.

People accused the government of inefficiency, lack of expertise and cohesion within its departments. Questions were asked on the government’s competency to manage the affairs of the people. Keeping the people supplied with sufficient foods is no easy job and this government is incapable of it and thus not worthy to run the government, they reasoned.

Those days the rumor mill of Golhabo kept busy. His followers, the Hamans, kept going from corner to corner, from door to door, with their rumors and allegations trying to incite hatred and mistrust in the minds of the people for the government.

However, not long after, the entire plot is exposed and truth revealed. The entire thing turned out to be nothing more than ‘gas cooked’ by Golhabo and followers to seek support for Golha and his party (DRP) in the oncoming parliamentary elections scheduled for May this year. ‘Gas cooked’ to fool the people that the geriatric Golha is still the only person to handle the government and nobody else can.

But just how did he do it, impose an export ban on essential foods in Andhra Pradesh. By offering massive sums of money, as bribes, to key officials of the state, Golhabo’s very own faithful Hamans has revealed by their own confessions.

Golhabo’s ‘sincere’ attempts to starve the people for their own good, so that he can once again come to power did not succeed due to the valiant efforts of STO chiefs; by their resourcefulness in sourcing essential foods, even in small quantities, from other parts of the world.
